Synopsis

A cup of bitter coffee that offers a variety of flavors, depending on the type of coffee, the brewing process, and how it is served, beyond that, it’s a matter of taste.

In reflect to this reality, there are Onot (and Rabiah both blind coffee farmers in Gayo, Central Aceh. Despite their blindness, this couple manages all their household chores and their coffee plantation. Onot, the husband, can even pick or harvest coffee cherries, distinguishing between raw and ripe cherries using only his fingers. Being visually impaired is not an excuse for seeking pity; they have proven they can live independently.

As they approach their twilight years, they have yet to be blessed with a child. However, this has not been a problem for them, as their nephew Win, 11, and niece Ipak, 10, always fill their days. Until a new challenge arises. An argument between Rabiah and her brother Abdullah, 43, the father of Win and Ipak that hurt Rabiah’s feelings, marking a turning point for Onot and Rabiah in their longing for a child.

Under the guidance of a traditional healer, the couple was advised to consume special food, and to drink boiled water made from date palm stems. However, their journey was not easy, and their attempts to adopt a child failed due to various obstacles. She gave up and let go of her hope of having a child. After trying everything they could, they eventually accepted their faith and surrendered it all back to God.

Then, a surprising glimmer of hope appeared Rabiah became pregnant. At her age, this pregnancy was nothing short of a miracle. Onot paid close attention to Rabiah’s health but was trapped in worry concerned about Rabiah’s age and fearful that the baby might suffer the same fate as them, being born blind. This anxiety put a strain on their relationship. Days once filled with hope became clouded with anxiety.

Not only were they burdened with psychological struggles, but fate did not always go their way. One problem after another arose, including an accident that threatened the safety of Onot and Rabiah. They were tested by the bitter hardships of life.

Will Onot and Rabiah endure and find hope in their life’s struggle? How will the resilience and roles of Abdullah and Rosna be tested amidst the heavy family conflicts?

And will the Almighty grant happiness to Onot and Rabiah’s family by the story’s end?
